hurt

i don't wanna hurt you, you know that, but i did. I don't wanna hurt you no more.

talk is cheap

i don't wanna talk. sometimes the best expressions are not laid on words, they remain in the mind where i think they are pure in its true meaning. I may not be a perfect person, and i will never be, but my feelings sometimes are. It has been a through and through world, the things that haunted me back then came back. I don't know how to even express myself at this point. For now, I don't wanna utter a word.

a life less ordinary

I wouldn’t consider my life to be interesting enough to write about, expose to the world and ultimately cause a maniacal mass hysteria like what Livin’ La Vida Loca did to popular mainstream history, but my life is indeed a fun, painful roller coaster ride for me.

I was born in a small town 52 kilometers south of Naga City on St. Lorenzo Ruiz’ feast day, September 28, 1979. Two years later we moved to Naga. Elementary years proved very challenging but somehow I managed to stay and compete in the honor’s section. In 1992, The Four Pillars of Ateneo de Naga High School welcomed me into their all boys’ high school with an academic excellence that’s incomparable in Bicol. My stay there further enhanced the knowledge and virtues that was planted by my parents and my first teachers. College, on the other hand was the time when I explored a lot of stuff, did some pretty crazy things but alas, here I am, all in one piece I guess.

I have been keeping my journals as a hobby and as an outlet for my overly jumbled scheme of existence. Somehow, it has been my most dedicated listener, confiding my most sacred thoughts, my seemingly diabolical plans, and my most intimate emotions. It all started way back in elementary when, out of the blue, I picked up my pen and begun writing my thoughts about this girl that I had the biggest crush on. My love for writing didn’t die when my crush for her faded away. I have been keeping journals ever since.

Two years ago, I begun writing blogs online which, I realized, proved very convenient to establish and ruin relationships, but my articles had not been confined to mere topics about relationships and heartaches. I have repercussions ranging from SLR cameras to festivals to projects recently undertaken with my new distraction, motorcycles and digital photography.

Indeed, my life might sound interesting enough but it is far from interesting. It is a life of sheer pleasure and excitement that I and the people around me made. It is a life unending, a life less ordinary.

anti-kris aquino or my reflection on the 2007 philippine elections

May 20, 2007

It is often said that it is darkest before light. Quite a dramatic contrary, however, this does not apply to us, the Philippines as a whole. We have been living in the dark for as long as any living soul could remember. Sometimes, I think we've sadly forgotten how it is to see the light. Rottenness abound here, and the election scarily is not an exemption. Ruffa and Yilmaz may have been squabbling across the papers, much to my disappointment, and the election candidates are not a notch different. Such childish, disgusting horrors! And our future depends on them? What a freaking crying shame!

I had a rare chance to get my feet wet in Bula, Camarines Sur. I volunteered as PPCRV staff, although quite reluctantly, but anyway, it may as well be another astounding experience for me. Amidst all the clamour and chaos happening within the precincts, I was stationed among the coffee laden quick count workstations. The minutes and the hours ticked as we painstakingly tallied every sacred vote. The skyline changed colors from happy yellow into jet black and still we counted, and counted and tallied and sipped coffee. Slowly, surely, it crept into me. Something had formed within the bellows in me. Some form of understanding, scary, horrific, hopeful and disgusting at the same time, but in a very slightly positive way, I guess. Before me, while the tube flickered erratically, formed the future. I thought about the children, all the people that will go hungry, all the people that will become rich, all the people that will become powerful. As the tube flickered its numbers, the future wasted away. It was the same people, the same boring shmuck, the same familiar name rolling before my eyes. "Have we ever learned anything?", I asked myself. I guess we have not. Three hundred years of oppression taught us nothing! Up until this very moment, we are being enchained by our idiocy. The same people, the same familiar family names gets the positions. Where are the leaders, the real leaders of the poor, the leader of the people?

Many, a sad conclusion, but hope is not completely lost. I know, that thing that crept into me crept into somebody else too. I know I am not alone. I know that amidst the darkness and corruption lies people, thinking, wishing and hoping for clear skies. The May elections may be a disaster, but future elections shouldn't be, we'll be there to make sure it won't. Let's also make sure Kris Aquino does not run for president. :)

soundtrack for our movie

Mae's Soundtrack For Our Movie

i started to ache when I started to think of you.
wondering how long it would take
before I step into something new.
there's only so much I can fake.
there's only so much that I can prove.
well, do it in a minute,
i could go play the fool for you.

lights, camera, action.
i think I'm going for it this time.
there's something you should listen to.
could I take you for a car ride?
this is the soundtrack for our movie.
would you tell me when we get to the best part?
i'll play it for ya
oh no, I think I've lost this one.
can we try again?

well I'm a wreck.
i really can't explain it but I,
i hear the music when I look at you.
orchestrating the song to accommodate the moment.
well, I'm so in love with you.

are you looking for an answer?
because I could really use a friend tonight.
we can make this last forever.
we don't have to fear the sunlight.

well I'm a wreck.
i really can't explain it but I,
i hear the music when I look at you.
orchestrating the song to accommodate the moment.
well, I'm so in love with

i'll take a chance and steal away this movie moment.

i'm in deep whenever I'm with you.
i'm directing the scene that has you and me forever.
we'll I'm so in love with...

mj

am i my brother's keeper?

“Each man is his brother’s Cain.” —Primo Levi

Paul Rusesabagina, substantially and amazingly portrayed by Don Cheadle is the unsurpassable example of what a true leader should be, irregardless of color or ethnic orientation, he is there to extend a helping hand. He possesses the Great Man Theory of effective management in a mere fact that the situation he was in drove him to become an exceptional leader. When drove to a crisis, he used his resources (the hotel) as a refugee sanctuary saving more than a thousand poor Tutsi and Hutu souls drove into a 21st century genocide. What more brutal than the slain of a million persons? The utter wipeout of an entire nation! Why has this not come to our senses? When Saddam invaded Kuwait in ’91, the world watched as the US led its troops into restoring peace, why has this not happened on the Rwandans? I can ultimately concluded that it has something to do with the black gold. Brutal, but amidst the barbarism and insanity rose one man driven to be a savior. Paul, democratically proves that leaders need not dictate his orders but instead takes his power from the needs and requests of his subjects. True leadership requires that everybody should benefit from the decisions made. Paul, abandoned himself and in one scene, his family, when he refused to ride the truck to the camp. That line of thinking deserves a wreath on Paul’s head, a wreath for his heroism, an applause for his courage.

The Rwandan genocide is not without controversy. It happened in ’94 amidst high speed communications and 24 hour news and yet under our noses, almost a million souls perished in one of our history’s most insane mass murder. Are we our brother’s keeper? Definitely yes.

“You cannot seriously think that you can kill them all.” - Paul Rusesabagina
